For those of you who haven’t heard of it, Breast Cancer Awareness month in October is followed with Testicular and Prostate Cancer awareness month in November, where men will start the month clean-shaven, then grow a mustache, AKA a “mo,” for 30 days, while asking friends, family, and others to donate for their efforts, where donations go toward research for prostate and testicular cancer, as well as other men’s health issues.
People may see this phenomenon, prompting them to ask the men who participate what all this excessive facial hair is about, thus giving the ability to spread awareness and knowledge of men’s health.
Your question may be, what can women do this month? Certainly, growing a mustache isn’t much of an option for MOST (although, I promise, I am not judging those of you ladies who do. You go girl!) If you check out the official site for Movember, http://us.movember.com, there are options for all who’d like to participate this month. Do some reading on “Mo Sistas” to see how you can get involved.
Basically, the point of having months like these is to get people to pay attention to their overall health and well-being. There are many ways to be able to help prevent certain health issues from arising, and it all starts with awareness. So this month, gentleman, get to growing that facial hair. And ladies…stock up on facial moisturizer!
