Alright, so you’re making sure to eat healthy foods. You’re drinking plenty of water. You’re getting plenty of sleep. You’re exercising regularly. You’re thinking positively. What more could you do?
Visualization. WAIT! Before you roll your eyes and think this is too hokey, allow me to elaborate. There is an ever growing school of thought that says “You have to see it before you and be it” and I believe this to be true as well. I have utilized this technique with clients and have seen considerable results.
If you have ever ridden a horse or a motorcycle, the most effective way of getting from point A to point B is to “look where you want to go.” I believe the same holds true for life as well. Look where you want to go and see yourself there.
There are three main parts for successful visualization.
First, you have to be able to clearly visualize yourself at your goal. However, if your goal is fairly ambitious, then it might be hard to truly see yourself at your goal just yet. In that case then, we just chunk down your goal into several obtainable short-term goals. Such as, five pound increments.
Next, you have to truly believe that you can attain this goal. This is very important! Do not over look or underestimate this step.
Last, but by no means least, you have to feel the very feelings that you would be feeling upon reaching your desired goal. And, by that I mean really FEEL them. Jump up and down, hoot and howl, praise yourself while fist pumping, whatever it takes to get you there.
I recommend doing visualizations at least twice a day (morning and night) and even more if possible, but only for 1 – 2 minutes at a time. Visualization does not need to be longer than that, plus most folks are just too busy to try to incorporate more than a minute or two of visualization time. Which is great because that’s all we need.
So, here’s what you do.
Get quiet and close your eyes. Imagine yourself stepping up onto your scale and “seeing” your goal weight – whether it’s you’re long or short-term goal. Then start feeling, truly FEELING just how elated you are to have reached that goal! Feel how proud you are of yourself for having worked so hard. This is where you insert that hoot and howl, jumping up and down, and fist pumping! AND all of this happens inside the real “belief” that you can attain your goal. Belief in yourself and belief in your abilities.
That’s all there is to it. It’s very simple, but very, very effective.
That’s all for now. SEE you again soon!
