Sleep for weight loss

sleep for tampa weight loss

Are you snacking more and sleeping less?

People who get less sleep are more likely to be overweight. A new study may explain why. Researchers studied women and men who slept less than 5 hours a night, and found these individuals consumed 220 more calories from snacks throughout the day, than when they slept for at least 8 hours.

What to do? Get more sleep :) And most importantly, keep high-calorie, high-carb snacks like chips, pretzels, muffins, cookies and candy out of reach.

Dangers of the HCG Diet

Jan 21st, 2014No Comments

dangers hcg diet GENETIX PROGRAM The HCG Diet, otherwise known as the How-Can-I-Get…Skinny-Without-Working diet, is a popular fad diet that is based on the biochemical hormone, Human Chorionic Gonadatropin, found in the blood of pregnant women. Mmmm…yummy!

These injections,or serum drops, of human chorionic gonadatropin (hCG) are promoted by some diet companies as a way to stimulate rapid weight loss. They claim that hCG suppresses hunger and triggers the metabolization of fat in the body.

The Problem: There is no medical or scientific evidence that hCG can actually help to lower weight.

In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have issued warning letters to seven companies marketing over-the-counter hCG products as weight loss cures.  Can you blame the companies, though?  It’s hard to market the ingredients of very expensive urine.

The popular reasoning seems to be that because hCG occurs naturally in pregnant women, without harming mother or fetus, it would be safe to consume as a treatment. In fact, as a treatment it is given in much smaller doses than those naturally occurring during pregnancy. However, the FDA has not given approval to use hCG as a dieting formula. It is approved as a fertility treatment, so women who do not want to get pregnant should be particularly cautious about using hCG for weight loss.  And men…good luck with those sympathy contractions.

Despite its lack of FDA approval for dieting, since the drug already exists, there are doctors that are prepared to prescribe it for this purpose. Some Internet sites sell something purporting to be hCG without the need for a prescription, but you should be wary of such drugs, as there is no control over their effectiveness or safety.

Even with the prescription drug, occasional unwanted side effects can occur when taking hCG. Headaches, depression, and restlessness may occur, as well as an increased risk of blood clots developing in the body. Not entirely surprising, hCG users may also feel some of the symptoms of pregnancy during treatment, such as water retention, swelling and sensitive breasts. In rare cases, hCG can cause ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which may be fatal.

Treatment with hCG can be expensive and it is not covered by health insurance. Some studies have shown that patients who consumed the same low-calorie diet (500 calories a day), but who were given a placebo instead of hCG, did just as well in terms of weight loss. Damn those dream-shattering placebos! And, of course, there’s the perennial question: Will the weight stay off once the treatment has finished?

To find out more about the hCG diet and how it can be harmful and potentially fatal, ask a Genetix Coach today.

MLM (Herbalife, Nu Skin) Stock Drops. FTC Crackdown on Deceptive Weight Loss Product Ads

Jan 7th, 2014No Comments

mlm stock drop ftc weight loss productsMLM companies’ (Herbalife, Nu Skin) stock drops as FTC cracks down on deceptive ads for weight-loss products.

Regulators of various Federal agencies announced a unified plan to crack down on misleading advertisements for weight-loss products, including dietary supplements, food additives, and skin creams.

WHAT???  So putting skin cream on my salad wasn’t shedding away my pounds?  Those liars!

Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, Jessica Rich, discusses in a publically released statement the FTC plan of action or, “initiative against deceptive claims made by national marketers of fad weight-loss products,” the agency said.

The announcement had a rippling effect, almost immediately causing shares of popular MLM (multi-level marketing) companies Herbalife and Nu Skin Enterprises to plummet Friday.

Word on the street is that they are planning to change their ad slogans to, “Your weight will drop as fast as our stock did!” Take that FTC!

Shares of Nu Skin were down to a low of about 6.7% in mid-day trading Friday before eventually recovering some of the loss. The stock closed at $132.41, a drop of 4.1%.

“Herbalife has no reason to think any of its weight-management products will be the subject of the FTC’s January 7 press conference,”  Herbalife spokeswoman announced. “Herbalife uses sound science in choosing our products.”

When did we start calling One-potato Two-potato “sound science”?  But, hey, a girl’s gotta’ eat right?   Their CLIENTS DON’T… but whatever.

Weight Loss to Prepare for the Wedding Season

Jan 7th, 2014No Comments

weight loss for wedding season Genetix ProgramSome of you lucky ladies might have been given a beautiful diamond for Christmas. How exciting! You’re over the moon one minute, then the next minute you are in panic mode. You think, “I need to lose weight to look beautiful for my wedding!”

Or maybe you weren’t the one to get engaged this year, but you know that soon the invitations will start rolling in for the spring wedding season. Whatever the inspiration for your weight loss, having a deadline to shoot for can provide the motivation you need to get rid of any extra weight.

So, off to the Internet you go to research “diets”.

Here’s what you find: HCG Diet, Detox Diet, Liquid Diet, Crash Diet, Starvation Diet…Diet Diet Diet!!

Now drop the “T” from the word and you get “DIE”.

The definition of diet = “A temporary solution to weight loss”. And the definition of temporary = “short-lived, short-term, not permanent”—and that is what you will get from any of these unhealthy, unsafe diets.

Now let’s break down a couple of these most-tried diets.

Crash Diet: This is a diet extreme in its nutritional deprivations, typically with a severely restricted calorie intake. It is not meant for long periods of time. YIKES! Doesn’t sound like much fun. In fact, you will be really miserable during what should be a happy time, planning your wedding.

HCG Diet: Named after the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, the HCG diet promotes a super low-calorie diet while getting daily injections of the HCG hormone—none of which is FDA approved! And, not to mention, it is extremely expensive. That is money that could be used toward your wedding.

I could go on and on talking about these “quick-fix” diets, but the best way to take off those extra pounds for your wedding AND keep them off is with a weight-loss program that is healthy, practical, sensible, and addresses long-term success.

Genetix Program is a weight loss and lifestyle program based on behavior modification. What that means is that each person that joins the program is paired with a nutrition Coach that they speak to every single day. No public weigh-ins or meetings.

The food on the program is all-natural food that you buy from your local grocery store. No pre-packed food, pills, injections, or thermogenics. It utilizes all food groups, not cutting out any macro- or micronutrients such as carbs, proteins, or fats. The program is based on the foods that fit your your individual lifestyle. You will never eat foods you don’t like.

On Genetix Program we track everything for you—from your weight to your diet to your stress level (and planning a wedding can be very stressful). You will not be counting points or calories!

So before you say “I do”, say “I will”, and commit to a program that is a proven success system. Start now and skip the hours of internet searching and wasted time with useless diets. I just saved you time that you can now put towards enjoying the wedding season. Congratulations!

Eat like a king

eat like a king genetix diet

When it comes to weight loss, WHEN is just as important as HOW MUCH you eat.

Studies have shown that the dieters eating most of their daily calories in the morning and afternoon meal, were more successful.

A study given to 74 overweight or obese women showed this to be a solid conclusion. The groups were split in two- the first group was given the “breakfast diet” which consisted of a 700 calorie breakfast, a 500 calorie lunch and a 200 calorie dinner. The other group was given the “dinner diet” which consisted of a 200 calorie breakfast, a 500 calorie lunch, and a 700 calorie dinner.

After 12 weeks the women on the “breakfast diet” lost an average of 18 pounds while the women on the “dinner diet” lost 8 pounds.

It is a know fact that your metabolism is the most efficient and at its peak first thing in the morning and slows down as the day goes by to prepare for sleep. So…wouldn’t it make sense to eat the bulk of your calories during the day? Feed your body with the right amount food to provide you with energy until it’s time to relax?

So, begin your day with a hearty breakfast because, like your Mother always said, it’s the most important meal of the day…”one fit for a King”.
