Does everyone have their Halloween costume picked out? My next question: Does it fit the way you want it to?
If your answer is anything other than “ABSOLUTELY!,” then it might be a good time to talk about those tricky treats that come along starting October 31st.
No, I’m not just talking about raiding your kids’ Halloween bucket, but we’re going to start there. I’m also talking about gearing yourself up for the entire holiday season… Thanksgiving… Christmas and Hanukkah, New Years… they all have the potential to be devastating to your waistline. Why not turn that potential around, starting on All Hallow’s Eve?
These are my tips for evading that candy bucket:
1. Chocolate: You see those fun size Snickers bars? Sure, they taste great, but they can turn you from fun size to plus size, if you eat too many. Why not take your favorite chocolate protein bar, cut it up into smaller bites, and get your fix that way.
2. Popcorn balls: Held together by sugar, these things can pack a mean punch to your costume size. Try some air-popped popcorn, and sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for the sweetness. Low calorie, high fiber, and delicious.
3. Candy apples: Sure, they taste good… but have you considered, so do plain ol’ apples? Fruit IS nature’s candy, after all!
I’m not saying to deny yourself completely of any treats, because we are all human and realistically we deserve it from time to time. Just consider that your biggest reward is, and always will be, health and longevity.
Stay tuned next month for some healthy and delicious Thanksgiving recipes!
